- The Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan (PM-SURAJ) portal was launched in 2024 by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to provide digital credit support to one lakh entrepreneurs from disadvantaged sections (most marginalized communities like SC, ST, Backward Classes, etc) .
- It is a centralized online platform where eligible individuals (fresh business ventures/ new entrepreneurs) can apply for & track government-backed business loan schemes.
- Under this, business loans up to ₹15 lakh are offered at concessional interest rates, with funds directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts through banks, NBFC-MFIs, and other financial institutions.
- The scheme is implemented through government bodies such as the National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation, National Safai Karamcharis Finance & Development Corporation, and National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation.
- In the financial year 2024–25, the portal surpassed its target by disbursing ₹1,389.61 crore to nearly 1.39 lakh entrepreneurs, highlighting its role in promoting inclusive entrepreneurship.
