Context

Recently, the Union Government extended financial support under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) Scheme to 28 infrastructure projects proposed by the Delhi Government.

About Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) Scheme

 

  1. Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) is a Ministry of Finance scheme that provides financial assistance to States and Union Territories for capital expenditure projects.
  2. It was launched in 2020–21 to sustain public investment during the economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  3. Under the scheme, the Centre provides 50-year interest-free loans to support capital expenditure by States and Union Territories.
  4. It also offers reform-linked incentives to encourage States to undertake higher capital expenditure.
  5. Financial assistance is provided to projects selected from proposals submitted by the respective State Governments.
  6. The scheme also supports the integrated development of tourism infrastructure, including end-to-end tourist facilities, tourism value-chain development, quality design, and sustainable operation and maintenance.
