Context

The Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India recently launched the RSVC-AMRIT Platform.

About RSVC-AMRIT Platform

  1. It has been developed by NABARD in collaboration with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (OPSA).
  2. AMRIT is a digital platform designed to support the RuTAGe Smart Village Centre (RSVC) ecosystem.
  3. It aims to connect rural communities with appropriate technologies—technologies that are affordable, practical and suited to local needs.
  4. The platform supports the entire technology cycle, including:
    1. Identification and validation of technologies.
    2. Deployment and tracking of technologies in rural areas.
    3. Monitoring and knowledge sharing.
    4. Coordination among different stakeholders.
  5. It will gradually bring together innovators, startups, technology providers, academic institutions, funding agencies, accelerators, implementation agencies and rural communities.

Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG)

  1. It is an initiative of the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (OPSA), launched in 2004 to promote Science & Technology (S&T)-based solutions for rural development.
  2. It follows a demand-driven approach, working with NGOs, SHGs, community organisations and startups to identify local technology needs.
  3. It supports the development, testing and validation of appropriate technologies suited to local socio-economic conditions.
  4. Successful solutions are further supported for commercialisation, scalability and wider rural adoption.

RSVC-AMRIT and RuTAG: Linkage

  1. RuTAG focuses on identifying rural technology needs, developing solutions and supporting their validation and commercialisation.
  2. RSVC-AMRIT provides the digital infrastructure to coordinate and monitor these activities.
  3. Together, they can strengthen the movement of technology from innovation validation deployment wider adoption in rural India.
