Context

Recently, India and Qatar reviewed the progress of their bilateral partnership during a meeting between India’s External Affairs Minister and the Prime Minister of Qatar, with discussions focusing on strengthening cooperation across key sectors.

About Qatar

  1. Qatar, with Doha as its capital, is situated on the Qatar Peninsula along the western coast of the Persian Gulf, in the northeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula.
  2. It shares its only land border with Saudi Arabia to the south and is otherwise surrounded by the Persian Gulf.
  3. The country is characterised by a low-lying, arid desert landscape, with extensive sand dunes concentrated in the southern region.
  4. Sabkhas (salt flats) and wadis (seasonal river valleys) are among its distinctive physical features.
  5. Qurain Abu al-Bawl is the country’s highest point.
  6. Qatar possesses vast reserves of oil and natural gas, which form the backbone of its economy.
