e-FAST India Initiative

e-FAST India Initiative

Context

NITI Aayog launched the Platform for Aggregating Clean Transport (PACT) at the 5th e-FAST India Summit 2026 to accelerate zero-emission freight deployment in India.

About e-FAST India

  1. e-FAST India (Electric Freight Accelerator for Sustainable Transport–India) is a NITI Aayog-led government–industry platform promoting zero-emission freight vehicles, particularly electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (e-MHDVs).
  2. It connects key stakeholders, including vehicle manufacturers, logistics providers, shippers, financiers and charge point operators (CPOs), to support their adoption.

Platform for Aggregating Clean Transport (PACT)

  1. PACT, under e-FAST India, aggregates freight demand from shippers and logistics providers to identify opportunities for deploying electric freight vehicles on key corridors.
  2. It helps:
    • Improve visibility of future demand for electric freight vehicles.
    • Support planning of charging infrastructure along freight routes.
    • Connect vehicle manufacturers, financiers and operators with potential users.
    • Strengthen the commercial viability of e-MHDVs.

Significance

  1. Lower Emissions: Promotes zero-emission freight vehicles, helping reduce transport-related pollution.
  2. Lower Oil Dependence: Greater use of electric freight vehicles can reduce fossil-fuel consumption.
  3. Market Development: PACT links demand, finance, vehicles and charging infrastructure, addressing key barriers to e-MHDV adoption.
  4. Clean Mobility: Supports India’s goals of energy transition and sustainable transport.
