About Ambazari Lake
- Ambazari Lake is situated on the southwestern edge of Nagpur in Maharashtra and is one of the eleven prominent lakes of the city.
- Constructed in 1870 during the rule of the Bhonsle dynasty, it is regarded as the oldest and largest lake in Nagpur.
- The lake was originally developed as a reservoir to supply water to the city and remained an important source of water for over three decades.
- The Nag River originates from Ambazari Lake.
- The name “Ambazari” is derived from the Marathi word “Amba,” meaning mango, due to the presence of mango trees around the lake.
- A public garden developed near the lake in 1958 has made it an important recreational space contributing to urban wetland conservation and ecological balance in Nagpur.
