About Lake Tahoe
- Lake Tahoe is a freshwater alpine lake situated in the Sierra Nevada range along the California–Nevada border in the United States.
- Located at an elevation of about 1,897 metres, it is the highest lake in the USA and the largest alpine lake in North America.
- The lake extends nearly 35 km in length and about 19 km in width, with a water volume of around 150 cubic kilometres.
- It has an average depth of about 300 metres and a maximum depth of nearly 501 metres, making it the second-deepest lake in the USA and one of the deepest lakes globally.
- Around 63 tributaries flow into Lake Tahoe, while the Truckee River near Tahoe City serves as its only outlet.
