About Tripura Sarinda
- Tripura Sarinda is a traditional bowed string instrument of Tripura and is also known as Sarinda Uakhrap.
- The instrument is crafted from a single block of wood and contains a hollow resonating chamber.
- It incorporates bamboo components and features an oval-shaped wooden vibrating chamber covered with a thin skin membrane.
- It has a broad open upper section, a narrow waist, and an oval-shaped lower portion.
- The instrument is about 65–70 cm long.
- Three pegs are fitted at the top for fastening and tuning the strings.
- The strings are made of metal, Muga silk thread, or animal gut.
- It is played using a bow made of horsehair.
- Other GI-tagged products of Tripura include Tripura Queen Pineapple, Risa, Pachra (Rignai), and Matabari Peda.
