  1. News: India climbed five places to the 91st position out of 182 countries and territories on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2025.
  2. About CPI: The CPI is the most widely used global corruption ranking in the world. It is published annually by Transparency International, a non-governmental organization, which has been releasing this report since 1995.
  3. Methodology and Scoring
    1. The index ranks 182 countries and territories based on their perceived levels of public sector corruption. This is determined through expert assessments and opinion surveys involving business people and specialists.
    2. The index uses a scale of 0 to 100:
      1. 0 indicates a country is perceived as highly corrupt.
      2. 100 indicates a country is perceived as very clean.
    3. Transparency International, does not directly measure the actual, absolute amount of corruption; rather to ensure accuracy, each country’s score is derived from at least three data sources.
    4. These sources are selected from 13 distinct corruption surveys conducted by reputed organizations like the World Bank and the World Economic Forum.

    1. Least Corrupt Nations:Denmark 2.Finland 3.Singapore
    2. Most Corrupt Nations: South Sudan> Somalia> Venezuela, ranked at the bottom.
  5. Performance of India: India has shown positive progress in the latest index. Our country climbed five places, moving from the 96th position in 2024 to the 91st position in 2025. This improvement reflects changes in the perceived level of corruption within India’s public sector over the past year.
