Context
Recently, NIELIT and Intel India launched two programmes to expand access to industry-oriented Agentic AI training and build a skilled AI workforce in India.
What is Agentic AI?
- Agentic AI is an advanced form of AI that can make decisions and perform tasks with limited human intervention.
- Unlike traditional AI, which mainly responds to instructions or analyses information, Agentic AI can set goals, plan steps and take actions to achieve a desired outcome.
- It works through AI agents, which can understand a situation, decide what to do and interact with different tools or systems.
- Its working can be understood through five key steps:
- Perception: Collects information from sources such as databases, sensors or user interfaces.
- Reasoning: Understands the information and identifies possible solutions using large language models (LLMs).
- Planning: Using the information to develop a plan to break the goal into smaller steps and decides how to achieve it.
- Action: The AI carries out the planned tasks or interacts with other systems.
- Reflection: Reviews the results and improves its future actions.
About the AI Skilling Program
The initiative was launched by NIELIT under MeitY, in collaboration with Intel India. It has introduced two programmes:
- Agentic AI for Everyone
- Introduces learners to AI agents, workflow automation and multi-agent systems.
- Uses no-code platforms to provide practical experience.
- Focuses on improving productivity, business processes and decision-making.
- Engineering Agentic AI Systems
- Focuses on designing, developing and deploying AI agents.
- Covers agent architecture, tool integration, memory, orchestration and deployment.
- Provides exposure to both no-code/low-code tools and coding-based frameworks.
Conclusion
These programmes aim to create an industry-ready AI workforce, increase access to emerging AI skills and help India prepare for an economy increasingly shaped by autonomous AI systems.
