About Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Initiative
- The Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Initiative was launched in 2024 under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
- It aims to strengthen water conservation and groundwater recharge through active public participation.
- The initiative follows a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to ensure efficient conservation of water resources.
- It encourages the participation of government agencies, local communities, industries, NGOs, and resident welfare associations in water conservation efforts.
- Key activities under the initiative include rainwater harvesting, aquifer recharge, borewell recharge, and recharge shafts.
- These measures help capture and store rainwater and surface runoff, thereby improving groundwater availability.
- The initiative promotes community-led management of local water resources and encourages responsible water use.
- It enhances climate resilience by increasing water storage capacity and helping communities cope with droughts and extreme rainfall events.
- The recharge process also improves water quality by naturally filtering water through soil and reducing salinity and contamination.
