Introduction and Name Change	The Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) was renamed as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in 2019
Scope and Administration	DPIIT is under the administration of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, It serves as a central government agency with the responsibility of devising and executing growth strategies for the Industrial Sector, while also addressing socio-economic objectives and national priorities. Functions	Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): DPIIT actively creates, advocates, and streamlines policies pertinent to FDI within India. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR): Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) formulation is another key responsibility of DPIIT in areas such as industrial designs, patents, trademarks, and geographical indications of goods. Promotion of Industrial Development: DPIIT plays a vital role in fostering industrial development, particularly focusing on areas characterized as industrially backward and the North Eastern Region.
