In October, 2023 National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) releases 6^th Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) Annual Report 2022-2023.

Key Indicators used in PLFS

1. LFPR: Percentage of persons in the labour force (i.e., working or seeking or available for work) in the population.
2. WPR: Percentage of employed persons in the population.
3. UR: Percentage of persons unemployed among the persons in the labour force.
4. Activity Status: It is determined on the basis of the activities pursued by the person during the specified reference period (preceding date of survey).

• Usual Status: Reference period is 365 days.
• Current Weekly Status (CWS): reference period is 7 days

Major highlights

1. UR in the country has shown a decrease between April and June 2023.

1. UR in urban areas decreased from 7.6% to 6.6% for persons of age 15 years and above.
2. For male, it decreased from 7.1% to 5.9% and for female, it decreased from 9.5% to 9.1%.

2. Similarly, the LFPR for persons of age 15 years and above and the WPR have also improved during the period.      
3. The LFPR in urban areas increased from 47.5% in April-June 2022 to 48.8% in April-June 2023 for persons of age 15 years and above.
4. The WPR in urban areas increased from 43.9% in April-June 2022 to 45.5% in similar months in this year for persons of age 15 years and above.

• For male, it increased from 68.3% to 69.2% and for female, it increased from 18.9% to 21.1% during this period.
