Kavli Prize

The Kavli Prize winners for 2024 were announced on Wednesday, honouring eight individuals for their contributions in astrophysics, neuroscience, and nanoscience.

About:

1. The Kavli Prizes recognize exceptional achievements in three scientific disciplines:  astrophysics, nanoscience, and neuroscience.
2. Established in 2008, the prizes honor the memory of Norwegian-American businessman and philanthropist Fred Kavli (1927-2013).

Winners in 2024:

Astrophysics:

1. David Charbonneau and Sara Seager were awarded the astrophysics prize for their discoveries of exoplanets and the characterization of their atmospheres.

Nanoscience:

1. Robert Langer, Armand Paul Alivisatos, and Chad Mirkin received the nanoscience prize for their breakthroughs in biomedical applications using nanoscience.

Neuroscience:

1. Nancy Kanwisher, Winrich Freiwald, and Doris Tsao were recognized for their collective decades-long efforts in mapping the connection between facial recognition and the brain.
