The Digital Health Incentive Scheme (DHIS) has been extended by the central government for a period of one year. The extension aims to promote the adoption of digital health practices and enhance the quality of healthcare in India.

About the Scheme:

  1. Background:
    1. DHIS is a national initiative under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) launched on January 1, 2023.
    2. It aims to establish a robust digital health ecosystem.
  2. Extension:
    1. The scheme has been extended until June 30, 2025.

Key Features and Objectives:

  1. Eligibility:
    1. Healthcare facilities, digital solution companies, and other providers are eligible to participate.
  2. Incentives:
    1. Incentives are offered based on creating and linking digital health records to Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) numbers.
  3. Registration:
    1. Healthcare institutions can register through the Health Facility Registry (HFR), and digital solution entities can register through the ABDM Sandbox.
  4. Qualifying Transactions:
    1. Creating any ABHA-linked health record, such as teleconsultations, lab reports, prescriptions, qualifies under the scheme.

    1. DHIS encourages healthcare providers to adopt digital practices, improving patient care and reducing administrative burdens.
  2. Enhancing Quality of Care:

National Health Authority (NHA):

  1. Role:
    1. NHA is the apex body responsible for implementing Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY.
  2. Mandate:
    1. NHA is tasked with designing strategies, building technological infrastructure, and implementing the National Digital Health Mission to create a national digital health ecosystem.
  3. Evolution:
    1. NHA is the successor of the National Health Agency, which functioned as a registered society since 2018.
    2. In January 2019, the National Health Agency was reconstituted as the National Health Authority under a Cabinet decision for full functional autonomy.
