  2. About Wheat
    1. 2nd most important staple food crop in India after rice.
    2. Temperate crop (cool and dry climatic conditions required).
    3. Rabi crop — sown in winter and harvested in spring.
    4. Temperature Requirement : 10°C–15°C during sowing and 21°C–26°C during ripening for optimum growth and grain quality. Bright sunshine during ripening enhances grain formation and quality.
    5. Rainfall: Requires 50–75 cm of well-distributed rainfall. Excess rain or humidity during ripening damages the crop. Light winter showers from Western Disturbances in northwestern India significantly improve yields.
    6. Soil: Performs best in loam or clay-loam soils.
  3. Major Wheat Producers (Global): China, India, Russia and United States.

Major Wheat Producing States in India: Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
