- Recently, the Supreme Court permitted the construction of a road through Rajaji National Park, while clearly directing that commercial vehicles must not be allowed to use this route.
- Located in Uttarakhand, the park occupies a transitional zone between the Shivalik ranges and the Indo-Gangetic plains.
- It came into existence after integration of three wildlife sanctuaries, Rajaji, Motichur, and Chilla, and is named in honour of C. Rajagopalachari, widely remembered as “Rajaji”.
- The Ganga River flows across it, naturally dividing the protected area into two sections.
- Forests Found: Moist Shivalik Sal forests, Moist Mixed Deciduous forests, Northern Dry Mixed Deciduous forests, along with Khair–Sissoo forests on the southern slopes.
- Its vegetation is dominated by Sal, along with species like Anogeissus latifolia, Albizzia procera, Albizzia lebbek, Boehmeria rugulosa, Lannea coromandelica, Terminalia bellerica, Mallotus philippensis, Wendlandia heynii, and Bombax ceiba.
- Rajaji also sustains rich wildlife populations, including Asian elephants, tigers, leopards, Himalayan black bears, sloth bears, civets, martens, jackals, and hyenas.
