Context
The Indian Navy will conduct Operation Southern Readiness 26-2 which is a four-day multinational maritime training exercise at the Southern Naval Command, Kochi, in partnership with the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) to strengthen maritime cooperation and improve regional maritime security.
About Operation Southern Readiness 26-2
- It brings together personnel from CMF partner nations to improve coordination, share operational experience, and exchange best practices in maritime security.
- The programme combines classroom sessions, simulator-based training, and practical onboard exercises.
- Training covers Maritime Law, Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), Information Sharing, Counter-Narcotics Operations, Force Protection, Asymmetric Threats, and maritime uncrewed systems.
- Participants also receive practical training in Damage Control and Firefighting, maritime communications, Survival at Sea, and boarding operations aboard Indian naval ships.
- The exercise aims to enhance operational readiness, strengthen regional cooperation, and build the capacity of participating countries to address emerging maritime security challenges.
- The Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) is a multinational maritime partnership comprising more than 40 member nations, with the Indian Navy playing an active role in its maritime security initiatives in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
