Context:
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is preparing to introduce a new digital system called E-PRAAPTI (EPF Aadhaar-Based Access Portal for Tracking Inoperative Accounts).
About E-PRAAPTI
- It is designed to improve access to old and inactive provident fund records through Aadhaar-based verification.
- Over time, EPFO will widen the platform’s reach to include users who may not remember or have access to their earlier member identification details.
- The system is intended to help employees locate, connect, and reactivate old PF accounts, especially those not properly linked with their current Universal Account Number (UAN).
- The UAN, a 12-digit number introduced in 2014, serves as a single identifier that links multiple PF accounts of a worker.
- A PF account is treated as inactive when:
- No contributions are received for 36 months after leaving a job, or
- The account is not connected to the employee’s active UAN.
- In its initial stage, the platform will function using member ID-based access, allowing a phased and secure rollout for users who still have their old records.
- The system is designed to simplify the process of managing forgotten or dormant PF accounts and ensure easier digital access for employees.
