About Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS)
- The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) is a Government of India initiative aimed at providing structured internship opportunities to youth in leading companies across the country.
- The scheme covers 24 diverse sectors, including oil and gas, energy, travel, hospitality, automotive, banking, and financial services, ensuring broad industry exposure.
- Selected interns receive a minimum financial support of ₹9,000 per month, making participation accessible for economically weaker sections.
- The scheme targets youth aged 21-25 years from low-income households, offering 12-month internships in the top 500 companies in India to enhance employability.
- Eligibility includes candidates who have completed 10th, 12th, ITI, Polytechnic, or Diploma courses, as well as fresh graduates from non-premier institutions, while students from elite institutions like Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Management, and National Law Universities, and those with professional degrees such as CA, MBA, and MBBS are excluded.
- Additional eligibility conditions include an annual family income limit of ₹12 lakh and the requirement that no family member holds a government job, ensuring the scheme benefits those with limited opportunities.
- Under the revised guidelines, final-year students can now apply, provided they submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their respective educational institutions during the application process.
