The North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) has officially launched the Padma Doree.
About Padma Doree
- Padma Doree is a collaborative textile initiative that blends the Eri (Ahimsa) silk traditions of Northeast India with the Chanderi weaving craft of Madhya Pradesh bringing together weaving knowledge and traditions from two distinct regions, encouraging exchange of skills and practices.
- It was launched by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and implemented through the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation.
- Uses natural dyes and traditional dyeing techniques that are environmentally responsible.
- It is based on Ahimsa silk practices, where silk is produced without causing harm to silkworms.
- It also aims to expand livelihood opportunities for artisans and highlight India’s diverse handloom heritage.
